Honestly, it’s going to be hard for me to go back to The Sims 3, playing in Dragon Valley and wishing my Sim could actually be a knight. The Sims Medieval lifts historical Simming up to an entirely new level. This game is pretty obviously not as detailed as The Sims 3, but the storytelling aspect totally makes up for that for me, personally. This is literally the kind of stuff I dream about. In just two short hours, I was able to check myself out in a mirror next to a piss pot, talk to my builder, go find wildflowers, sword fight a forest bandit, sharpen my sword, send the town bully to the stocks and then throw an egg at her and humiliate her, get a new servant, come back to my throne room to find a handsome bard and a beautiful merchant-maiden who both want to do awesome stuff for me, give the merchant-maiden the wildflower I found earlier and kiss her, eat gruel with my bare hands, write laws, play the fiddle, send a carrier pigeon, sic my Amazonian parrot on somebody, and discuss territorial politics with one of my advisers. So, since I’m a big nerd and I didn’t know who else to play as, I decided to make my monarch Skwisgaar Skwigelf from Metalocalypse‘s DethklokĬompare to Skwisgaar in his cute little Christmas sweater. Here are some screenshots I took from last night’s “first play”: I used to have to choose if I wanted to play The Sims 3 or Skyrim… now I can do both at the same time!

If you’re into fantasy type stuff, this is definitely the game for you. I nearly drooled as I glossed over the cute and fun traits and fatal flaws you can choose for your heroes/Sims to have (such as Licentious, Drunkard, and Cursed, just to name a handful). I must say, not only am I a history major, but I’m also a big fantasy-loving, Dungeons-&-Dragons-playing, dress-up-as-a-hobbit-and-go-to-the-renaissance-faire-three-times-a-year kind of person, so this was right up my alley. I love the outfits and I love that you’re literally a noble who can have your servants come and bring you food whenever the heck you want with a clap of your hands. Basically, you create different heroes who help you build and run your kingdom and you play these heroes as you would The Sims in different quests. The Sims Medieval is like a beautiful mixture of The Sims 3 and Skyrim.

It took several hours to download which I thought was really lame as an average Sims 3 pack only takes about 10 minutes for me. It annoyed me that the only place I could buy it was Origin, but I wanted it and I wanted it now.

However, after seeing screenshots on the Simmers United Facebook group, I finally gave in and purchased an Origin code off of Amazon for The Sims Medieval Deluxe which included the Pirates and Noble expansion pack for $19.99. My two friends who have it had reviews that were on opposite ends of the scale – one loved it and the other wasn’t much of a fan.

Also, the game can not be Saved while on this quest, so you must finish or abandon it.I have to admit that I was nervous to jump on board and buy Medieval. Only the Monarch can complete this quest. It is straight-forward, with the few choices you make in the quest causing very little variation.

Whoever took on this incredible mission would need to secure resources, hire a staff, control the burgeoning populace, and beat back the criminal element! Building a kingdom from the ground up was no simple task.
